Summary, etc. The RICS President's Commission on Major Disaster Management works to minimise the impact of major disasters affecting the built environment, for the benefit of the communities affected, regardless of their location. Following the south-east Asian tsunami, the Commission initiated a programme to develop a practical framework for bridging the gap between short-term relief and long-term reconstruction. The proposed framework, comprising a practical and wide reaching package of guidance, will be used by local governance, the UN and relevant NGOs, to help address this problem.
