| 520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
| Summary, etc. | Reports on the government's proposed amendments to the Housing and Regeneration Bill aimed at correcting post-tenancy problems. A number of former council tenants are likely to become tolerated trespassers. Such tenants lose their right to buy as well as repair and service rights. Housing Act provisions do permit courts the discretion to restore previous rights. However there are significant problems with this arrangement, described here. The government's solution will prevent tenancies from ending by continuing the full legal obligation to pay rent when in occupation. Also details corrections aimed at those currently in a state of tolerated trespass. |
