This report provides an introduction to extranets, which are being increasingly promoted as the panacea to the industry's communications problems. In addition it outlines the features available from some of the major suppliers. If information technology is to become a strategic component of a scheme, all the members of a team will need to be able to understand and to use the systems on offer. This will lead to the need to appoint a Construction Information Manager on many schemes; surveyors, of course, are ideally suited to this role.
