The second part of a two-stage consultation on night flying restrictions at Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted airports has been published. The first stage of the consultation was completed in 2004. The current consultation confirms the government position of maintaining existing controls until October 2006 and sets out proposals for restricting night flying from the end of the summer season 2006 to the end of the summer season 2012. The document describes the proposed environmental and noise abatement objectives for each airport; seeks view on a possible extension of the length of the night quota period; makes specific proposals for movement limits and noise quotas in each season; establishes proposed night noise criteria for the airports' future noise insulation schemes; and announces decisions about certain technical details of the restrictions. The consultation closes on 16 September 2005.
