This report summarises the most recent results of an on going evidence based evaluation of Planning Delivery Grant (PDG), a performance-based grant regime for local planning authorities. PDG works by providing an incentive to improve performance by authorities seeking to secure the grant and by providing additional resources. The scale of PDG awards is significant adding more then 20% to base budgets in the highest cases. The evaluation seeks to identify how PDG is spent, its impact on the quality of the planning service; the planning function response to the grant; the corporate level response to PDG and the expected outcomes derived from the PDG allocation. It should be read alongside research findings evaluating the planning standards authorities for 2004/05.
