The way in which property assets and FM services are purchased in the UK has been transformed in recent years. PFI is a method of procurement in which private sector consortia enter into long-term contracts to design, finance, build and maintain infrastructure for public sector organisations. On the other hand, the Government and also corporate occupiers in the private sector have used Corporate Property Outsourcing as a vehicle for outsourcing property assets. This CPD study paper describes the concepts and mechanisms used in these different approaches, and considers some of the implications for associated industries and professions.
