The ODPM has published two documents relating to the Home Information Pack (HIP) certification schemes. The role of certification schemes will be to ensure that home inspectors are fit and proper persons who are properly qualified and insured to prepare home condition reports. The ODPM envisages that certification schemes will be run by industry groups on a non-profit making basis. "HIP programme certification scheme(s)standards suggestedcompany framework" contains a suggested technical prospectus and memorandum of understanding for those wishing to form companies and/or seek approval from the ODPM to run a certification scheme. "HIP programme approval of home inspectors' certifications scheme" details the proposed criteria for the HIP certification scheme.
