Records that house prices showed a second consecutive monthly increase in December, though the rise remains modest following 15 months of decline. Confidence and activity have all improved, suggesting that the market is emerging out of the slowdown seen over the prior 18 months. Sales completions rose to the highest level since September 2004, rising 8% over the past three months. The amount of available property on the market rose in December but surveyors fear a shortage in the New Year. Looking ahead to the next three months surveyors are expecting modest price rises and view the prospects for sales as the best in more than two years.
