This DTI consultation seeks views on the designation of future Assisted Areas. Government is reviewing the Assisted Areas of the UK in response to the new European Commission guidelines on regional aid adopted on 21 December 2005. The current Assisted Areas were designated in 2000. The new guidelines will apply from 2007 to 2013 and replace existing guidelines in December 2006. They aim for less and better targeted state aid in line with the conclusions of successive European Councils and agreed by all member states. The first stage consultation ends on 19 April 2006.
