Records that house prices rose in May for the seventh consecutive month and at the strongest pace in two years. This was led by the London market with good gains also noted in Scotland and northern England. Newly agreed sales rose in May at the firmest pace since November 2005 and potential purchaser enquiries showed the largest increase since October 2005. Stocks of unsold property on surveyors' books rose for the second time in three months, remaining however 7% down from year ago levels. Surveyor confidence in the outlook for prices hit the highest level in just over two years in May.
