House prices increased by 0.8% in August, with the annual rate of growth rising to 6.6%. This rate of growth is nearly three times faster than this time last year. The price of a typical UK house is now £167 721, £10 412 higher than in August 2005. Base rates are expected to rise to 5% by the end of the year, however it is thought that the market will not slow as sharply as it did during the last round of interest rate rises between November 2003 and August 2004.
