Summary: Describes general considerations associated with the use of industrial by-products in construction. Also describes the use of by-products from non-ferrous metals production as bound aggregate. Slag derived from the production of zinc was used to construct demonstration roadways made from concrete and asphalt. Concretes containing crushed waste refractory bricks from aluminium smelters were also produced and assessed. Evaluates the in situ performance of the roads and the leaching capacity of the materials.
