Covers trends in tenure and cross tenure, owner occupiers and second homes, social renters and private renters and households in deprived areas and other topics. In 2004-05 there were 14.6m (71%) owner-occupying households, 3.7m (18%) social renters and 2.4m (12%) private renters in England. The mix of tenures in London differed noticeably from the rest of England (see above): London owner occupiers (58%), London social renting (25%) and London private renting (17%). The report is mostly based on information from the 18 386 households interviewed for the "Survey of English Housing" in the year beginning April 2004.
