Argues that performance improvement in the construction industry is significantly influenced by the innovation performance of SCKIPSFs, but notes there is little research in this area. Conducts a review of relevant literature, and develops a knowledge-based innovation model. Uses the conceptual model to analyse the results of a case study. The findings identify two forms of knowledge-based innovation: exploitative innovation and exploration innovation.
