Average farmland values increased by 15% in 2006 across Great Britain, recording a total growth of 50% since the beginning of 2004 - Savills expect values to continue to rise in 2007. Market activity across Great Britain increased by 2.7% during 2006 with just over 180 500 acres publicly marketed in 2006 compared with just under 176 000 acres during 2005. Lifestyle buyers are now competing with the increased farmer activity for the limited supply boosting the already strong demand. Overseas buyers were a strong source of demand in 2006, being the purchasers in 20% of all deals. Cash (excluding any rollover) was the principal means of purchase in 2006 representing the motive behind 40% of all buyers.
