Identifies sustainable development as the overarching framework providing the background to regional assembly operations. It affects housing development, public transport schemes, job environments, green infrastructure, fuel poverty reduction strategies and innovative technologies. It also provides a catalyst for communication with other bodies at local, regional and national level, and for raising the profile of the assembly itself. It should lead by example by advocating policy, partnership and coordination function. Assemblies should gather data across agencies, coordinate policy objectives, promote behavioural change and manage growth implications, and help strengthen contributions from Regional Economic Strategies and Regional Development Agencies.
