Reports that interest rate rises have dampened the strong retail investment market of a year ago, and whilst prime yields should remain steady, the secondary and tertiary markets are expected to weaken over the next 18 months. The in town and out of town occupier market is variable, and it is predicted that 30% of planned shopping centre development schemes will not get constructed this cycle. Forecasts a collapse in total retail returns across all three sub-sectors in 2007, with a pick up in performance expected through to 2010.
