Reports on the current state of the UK's student housing market. Identifies the most imbalanced markets for student halls, with London topping the list. Demand by first-year students alone outstrips supply. Of a total of 459 000 student bedspaces in the UK, over 133 000 are supplied by the private sector. A key driver in the future will be universities aiming to transfer ageing stock to the private sector. Student numbers have increased by 31% to 2.34m over the last decade; foreign student has increased by 67% over the same period, increasing the demand for quality affordable accommodation. Rents have increased by 31% within two years.
