Background to the Freedom of Information Act -- The legislation -- Exemptions -- Publication schemes -- Enforcement and appeal -- Records management -- Data protection, human rights and other legislation -- Staff and training -- Getting ready for Freedom of Information -- Appendices
Aims to be a practical guide to the implementation of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOI). Combines descriptions with checklists, models and practical examples. Avoids describing the Act in legal language. Instead it focuses on implementation from a user's point of view, directing the reader to those parts of the Act which will affect implementation procedures. Includes the information needed to comply with the Act. Explains how the FOI relates to other legislation such as data protection and human rights. Appendices include Codes of Practice under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 S45 and S46, on the discharge of public authorities' functions and the management of records.
