Provides guidance on a new approach of masterplanning, that of historic characterisation, with the goal of assessing the historic aspect of a regeneration site at the earliest stages of the planning process. Improvement in quality of planning, design and development, as well as a reduction in risks and delays in the development process are the benefits expected from this method. Focuses on three pilot projects: Prudhoe Hospital in Nothumberland, the former Graylingwell Hospital near Chichester and Hanham Hall near Bristol.
