The mix-adjusted average house price was £206 523 in January 2012 (not seasonally adjusted). UK house prices increased by 0.2% in the quarter ending January 2012 compared with 0.6% in the quarter ending October 2011(seasonally adjusted). Annual average house prices increased by 0.4% in England but fell by 1.7% in Scotland, 0.5% in Wales and 7.6% in Northern Ireland. Annual average house prices paid by first time buyers in December were 0.8% higher than a year ago. No change in average house prices paid by former owner occupiers. Annual average house prices paid for new properties in December 2011 were 8.8% higher than a year ago. By comparison average house prices paid on pre-owned dwellings were 0.4% lower.
