Summary: Transparency in fees/commissions in both the residential and commercial property sector has been in and out of the news for some time. Anecdotal information suggested that there may be unwelcome practice in this area. RICS wanted to look at what was actually happening and as such established the Transparency Working Group (TWG), which consisted of RICS members and independent people. The TWG issued a consultation paper in April 2009 inviting comments and held a number of stakeholder meetings across the UK. The consultation ran to July 2009 and the TWG issued a summary report outlining the main themes arising from the consultation responses in October 2009. The TWG then issued its final report and recommendations.
