A paper presented at the COBRA Conference in New Delhi on 10-12 September 2013. Looks at the idea of an integrated life cycle model for sustainable supermarket facilities. Food retailers are required to continuously improve the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of their supply chains as well as their retail service delivery process in order to maintain long-term profitability, while simultaneously under increasing pressure to exhibit explicit concern for green practices. An integrated life cycle model is proposed for the sustainable design, construction, operation and eventual decommissioning of a supermarket.
