Competent hydrographers must be both well trained and well educated. Traditionally, training and education have been dealt with separately. Vendors of modern hydrographic instruments and software are in an excellent position to help combine the two. The concept of collaboration between hydrographic organization, hardware and software vendors, and academia can lead to the development of education/training modules that would benefit all in the industry.
