Town centre retail reviewed

Series: CABE Press Release ; 18 May 2004 (3)Publication details: 2004Subject(s): Summary: In its new report "Design reviewed town centre retail" CABE hails the policy of successive governments, in particular the introduction of PPG6, in stemming the flight of retail activity from town centres to out-of-town-locations, as a way of securing future retail-led urban and economic regeneration. Although the main beneficiaries so far have been cities such as Birmingham, the report predicts other cities such as Sheffield will experience similar effects over the next 10 years, asks whether secondary locations such as Bradford can repeat the success and stresses how PPG6 has enhanced the offer of historic cities such as Bath.
