Builders bank on profits

Growth in construction workloads has slowed in the third quarter following a strong first six months of 2004 but remains above the long-term average for the survey. The slowdown has been fairly sharp in the private housebuilding and non-housing public works sectors. Surveyors remain very optimistic for activity over the next three and 12 months with private sector work providing the main boost.
