This new agency for planning and managing the Broads was created by the enactment of the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads Bill in March 1988. The Broads Act 1988 has other implications for countryside planning. Against the background of the area`s environment al problems, this article explains why those pressures required a new organisation to manage the area, highlights the planning issues which arose during the passage of the legislation and summarises the framework for future planning provided by the Act.
