In July 1979 Barclays sublet a flat to G for a term of two years. This lease was renewed at various intervals, the final being in 1985 for a period of two years and thereafter month to month. In April 1989 Barclays assigned the remainder of the term of their lease to another company who in their turn surrendered it to B. In January 1990 B served notice to quit on G. G held over claiming to be entitled to the benefit of the Rent Act 1977. In March B issued proceedings for possession.
