An example is given of research undertaken at Manchester University where interviews were conducted with 77 small companies in the Greater Manchester region. Details are given of the findings in respect of location, floorspace, tenure preferences, rents, premises and common services. Concludes that the nature of demand for small industrial units is highly specialised and future assistance should be targeted towards providing basic modern accommodation in the middle range of the market.
