The DETR has issued a consultation paper, "Improving adjudication in the construction industry", following the announcement of proposals to make adjudication fairer, more effective and easier to understand. The proposals include better guidance and training for adjudicators, better guidance to lay parties, amending the scheme to remove difficulties that cannot be dealt with by improved guidance and amending the act to outlaw clauses in contracts that require the party referring a dispute to adjudication to bear both parties' legal costs. Copies of the consultation paper are available at http://www.construction.detr.gov.uk/bregs/contract.htm and http://www.ciboard.org.uk.
