Developments in Global Navigation Satellite Systems: GPS modernised, Galileo launched
Series: Hydrographic Journal ; (104) April 2002, 3-7(5)Publication details: 2002Subject(s): Summary: This paper provides an overview of the technical developments of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), such as the US Global Positioning System (GPS) and the proposed European Galileo system. After a brief historical overview, the modernisation of GPS will be discussed; in particular the signals to be made available in the coming years to civil users of the system. Although Galileo is still under development, it is demonstrated that high-precision applications will benefit significantly from an integrated GPS/Galileo positing system. References. Graphs.
