The HL overturned a CA ruling in December 2001 which effectively blocked compensation for individuals exposed to asbestos while working for more than one employer. The HL gave its decision verbally on 16 May 2002 due to the ill-health of one of the claimants ruling that compensation should be awarded to suffers of mesothelioma, an asbestos-related disease although it could not be established which employer was to blame.
