There are hopes that moves towards self-certification will significantly increase building regulation compliance, reduce the costs for firms joining recognised schemes and promote training and competence in the industry. Competent person schemes were introduced to allow individuals and businesses to self-certify their work as complying with the Building Regulations as an alternative to submitting a building notice.
