An amendment to the proposed EU's which would have acknowledged that building design is also carried out by appropriately qualified surveyors and engineers and not just by architects, was voted against by the parliament. As a result British and Irish building surveyors will be prevented from exporting their building design skills and capabilities to other EU countries.
