Challenges, choices and decisions

By: Language: English Series: Wastes Management ; March 2005, 42-43(2)Publication details: 2005Subject(s): Summary: Describes the innovative, capital-wide "Waste Modelling for London Project", a collaboration between the Greater London Authority, the Association of London Government and other partners to be completed by October 2005. It will give London local authorities a statutory, fixed and long-term waste management framework with the message that waste management must become plan driven. The project uses Purgamentum, Mouchel Parkman's bottom-up approach working with all 37 London waste authorities to analyse systematically the logistics and costs of achieving the recycling targets proposed in the Mayor's Municipal Waste Management Strategy and the diversion levels required by the Landfill Directive. A second project phase led by Cranfield will provide a strategic appraisal of the technological options and proposed waste processes. Graphs.
