Examines the "Thematic strategy on the urban environment", one of seven strategies being developed under the European Community's Sixth Environmental Action Programme (6EAP), which establishes policy priorities and approaches for the period to 2010. The urban environmental strategy is likely to be enshrined within community law some time after 2005, probably as a decision of the European Parliament and Council. UK practitioners need to be aware of this current work on producing a EU-level strategy for the urban environment.
