The scheme will help thousands of people to own their own homes and addresses acute affordability problems in the short term. By 2010 HomeBuy aims to help 100 000 households. There will be three HomeBuy products all based on the idea of equity sharing: Social HomeBuy which enables social tenants to buy a share in the property that they currently live in, New Build HomeBuy enabling people to buy a share in a newly built property and Open Market HomeBuy, which assists people in London, southeast and eastern England to buy a property on the open market with the help of an equity loan. The new schemes will be up and running from April 2006.
