Interpretation of conveyances departs from other written contracts and other types of legal documents in two important respects. This article refers to case law to illustrate why this is so. Admissibility of extrinsic evidence is illustrated by "Mannai Investment Co Ltd v Eagle Star Life Assurance Co" 1997 and post "Mannai" cases. Subsequent conduct and actual intention are also considered.
