Discusses impact assessments of large scale retail development in England and compares them with impact assessments carried out for the same type of developments in the USA. Presents the different kinds of impacts (economic, environmental, etc.) which can result from a large scale retail development. Examines recent proposed changes to law and policy on retail development in England and analyses them in the light of law and policy on retail development in the USA. Finds that not all impacts found by researchers are assessed by planning authorities.
