Summary: Part 1 in a series of 4 articles looking at various aspects of the Minimimum Energy Efficiency Standard Regulations (MEES) effective from 1 April 2018. The Standard requires landlords of commercial and residential properties to carry out energy efficiency improvements works before they can grant a new lease if the properties do not have a Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) Rating of E or above. In April 2020 MEES is being extended to existing lettings of residenital property and in April 2023 to existing lettings of commercial property. Flowchart sets out a series of quesitons to help landlords and property managers decide whether MEES applies to their property. Sets out penalites for non-compliance.
