A brief description of current mining computer aided design features is provided and the benefits of employing such systems are discussed. However, there is a reluctance to adopt this proven technology in quarrying operations. A number of developments in computer applications, currently being investigated in the Department of Mining Engineering at the University of Nottingham, and which may be applied to quarry design, planning and operations are also presented.
