Presents findings of research on how data about traditional farm buildings can be collected and analysed at different spatial scales. Provides information on the size, character and condition of the stock of historic farm buildings, their relationship to the landscape as well as their re-use as domestic accommodations and business places. Recommends: an integrated management of data collected by the three research projects; the extension to the entire nation of the Farmstead and Landscape Project; the production of character statements for all national character areas; the improvement of the data found on the re-use of traditional farm buildings using the methods applied by the Historic Farm Building Photo Survey and the "Historic Farmsteads: Current Role and Context" project.
