Investigates how mixed-use schemes can and should be integrated into the street scene without creating monolithic developments that cannot be broken down into varieties of scale and form. Dispels the simplistic definition of mixed-use and proposes that mixed-use can work just as effectively as a combination of single-sector uses, as long as the wider picture is appreciated, with developments needing to become more outward looking and creating a sense of place. Looks at how existing developments, particularly traditional shopping centres, can be augmented and improved, with the businesses themselves assisting in the regeneration process.
