Using a survey of over one hundred businesses, investigated the impact of the Age Discrimination Act 2006 on small businesses in Shropshire, in terms of recruitment and skills availability, in the context of an ageing rural population. Initial findings suggest a very positive attitude towards older employees by employers, little awareness of the 2006 Act and minimal changes to recruitment procedures. Employment of staff over the official retirement age varies between employers.
