Looks at Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC) decision to seek its members views on how it should respond to plans for accreditation in conservation. Discusses problems with the accreditation plans such as: the relatively low take-up by candidates; lack of commonality across the schemes; criticism from non-accredited professionals that the schemes create a closed shop; and the rejection by some long standing professionals to having to prove their conservation credentials.
