Summary: Salford City Council has recently provided prefabricated relocatable groundfloor extensions as an option for elderly clients. In 2005 the Northern Ireland Housing Executive became aware of the Salford pilots and commissioned a review of the units. This paper summarises the results of that review and concludes that the use of such units has a number of advantages compared with conventional construction in terms of cost, speed of construction and less disruption to occupants.
