The latest assessment by RICS economists of the Australian housing market shows house price rises trailing off under the impact of interest rate increases after a long period of rapid growth. House prices will not fall far because owner occupiers are supporting the market as investors choose to stop buying. RICS expects Australian house prices to decrease by about 1% in 2005. The Australian experience suggests that the UK will not see an investor-led sell-off in its housing market.
