520 _aReviews the high incidence of housing affected by contaminated concrete in Cornwall . The houses were constructed using local mine waste for aggregate to make building blocks and mass concrete. Problems have arisen where mundic, (iron sulphite minerals), is contained in the waste. The mundic causes dramatic deterioration in the concrete. The author calls for building societies and banks to contribute to a trust fund to pay for research and expresses concern over the reluctance to advance loans for mortgage on homes with mundic blocks .
