520 _aExamines the new trend of internet cartography and provides an overview of current research in this area. Use of the internet has enabled maps to be disseminated to a wider audience than just static paper maps and also for users to interrogate maps and manipulate the data for their own purposes. Addresses the basic issue raised by the Commission on Maps and the Internet established by the International Cartographic Association, namely: focus attention on disseminating maps and spatial data through distributed electronic networks; examine internet map usage and project future areas of growth; examine web map uses to better serve user needs; promote the exchange of information about effective internet mapping for an international audience; improve user access to maps by examining the potential of internet map metadata and; promote instruction on internet mapping through collaboration and co-ordination with other ICA commissions.
