520 _aA comprehensive study undertaken to assess the amount of brownfield land in England. The study found that nearly a third of the 66 000 hectares of brownfield land identified on the National Land Use Database (NLUD) could readily become available for development. This would be a major contribution to government targets of developing 60 per cent of housing on brownfield land in the foreseeable future. About one-third of the land available is contained within Greater London, southeast and east of England; land here is also less likely to have restrictions on brownfield regeneration.
